Britain Prepared to Employ Immobilized Russia's Holdings to Finance Ukraine's Military Campaign

The UK is prepared to move forward with employing the full worth of seized Russia's assets to bolster the Ukrainian war effort, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has declared.

In a shared declaration, the heads of state of the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany asserted that this coordinated action would increase strain on Russian President Vladimir Putin and urge Russia to come to the table.

They clarified that the decision would be executed in close cooperation with the America.

UK sanctions have frozen over £25bn of Russian resources since Moscow began its full-scale invasion against Ukraine in 2022. However, previously, resources sent to Ukraine using Russia's assets had solely been sourced from earnings and returns accrued on them.

Sir Keir assured President Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, France, and Germany were aligned in their aim to advance efforts toward employing the complete amount of the immobilized Russia's state funds to end the war.

He noted that more sanctions over the next period would heighten the tension on Moscow.

This declaration comes after European officials met in Copenhagen recently to discuss using seized Russia's funds for a €140bn financial aid to the Ukrainian nation.

In the previous month, President Donald Trump urged Group of Seven partners to take or utilize immobilized Russia's funds, based on media sources.

The worth of immobilized Russian holdings in the EU is assessed to be approximately €211bn.

Leader Zelensky calls on UK's Sir Keir Starmer to join the PURL programme

Moscow executed extensive missile and drone strikes throughout Ukraine on Friday, leading to electricity outages in significant regions of the capital city, the city, and several other zones.

Two people were lost their lives and a minimum of 20 people were injured in the attack, the Ukrainian government said.

In a post on an online platform subsequent to the incident, Zelensky wrote that the strategic strike aimed at non-military and power facilities.

"What's needed is not mere statements but concrete steps - from the America, Europe, and the Group of Seven - in delivering anti-aircraft weapons and implementing penalties," he wrote.

"Every sanction decision undermines the Russian war effort," Zelensky noted, in a separate post.

Also on Friday, Zelensky told the press he would press Sir Keir to join the weapons procurement programme, under which alliance members buy arms from the United States to donate to Ukraine.

While commending the United Kingdom's strong support for the Ukrainian government, he noted it should send a clear signal that it would engage in the program, as well as impose further restrictions on the Russian Federation.
