It's a habit they've become accustomed to; an unspoken ritual that assists the person "shut down" from the racing thoughts that flood their thoughts once the day eventually comes to an end.
This account reflects something that I've been noticing at a growing rate in my practice. Working as a counsellor, it's clear a significant pattern: an increasing percentage of people that are using substances to manage their mental health concerns.
Research indicates that about a significant portion of adults who used beverages admitted doing so to alleviate tension and 18.5% to deal with anxiety.
We exist in an era of termed by experts as contemporary stress triggers. We have never been so frequently informed of emergencies, conflict and uncertainty. Despite we switch off our devices, the anxieties remain of financial strain, job insecurity, climate fears and mental exhaustion that results from feeling helpless.
