The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features several key adjustments:

  • Each team includes only eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities performed by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for players looking for different ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.

Community Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Player Input

Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
