UN:Me: An Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several intriguing future games, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a girl harboring multiple human souls inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Within her exist four distinct souls, all possessing their own anxieties and motivations. These entities can take over at will, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.

Based on showcased footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie hospital, while other scenes depict the main character exploring a desolate church.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to other people can activate a deep instinct within us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The core gameplay loop revolves around controlling whichever soul emerges at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become amplified and attack the girl in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with orderlies all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the lobby have enormous flowers growing from their necks are. Flowers are a recurring element, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the personas claims that the body belongs to them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, since each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The final entity standing might be a fake. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is available to follow on platforms.
